We have students who come in buried under misconceptions, self-doubt, and academic problems. Part of our job as educators is to help smooth away those rough areas. If we take a rock off the ground, it may be jagged, rough, even sharp and difficult to hold. It is simply a rock. If we take a smooth rock from the river deposits, what we find is a precious stone that has been naturally polished and cleansed. The same is true with our students. We, as the river, have an opportunity to be a part of the process of bringing out the absolute best in our students. We smooth away the rough edges to help them find what drives them to reach their highest potential. We help them develop a solid educational foundation, self-confidence, motivation to learn, and a natural balance with their environment that enables them to succeed. Each student is unique and precious like the stones of a riverbed.
